How I went from a demanding corporate marketing role to supporting childcare professionals to build a business they love!

I started out in corporate marketing, working on brands such as Harry Potter.

Although I loved my adventure in the marketing world, what I realised I wanted to do was support families, particularly vulnerable families. So I re-trained and worked in International Development before working in Children’s Services. And although my heart was in that work, I was so frustrated by the processes and systems that took the focus away from the work.

I finally took the plunge and decided to be my own boss.

I started out in corporate marketing, working on brands such as Harry Potter.

I finally took the plunge and decided to be my own boss.

I set out to combine all the things I loved, geeking out on all things business, supporting families and training.

I founded Babyem out of a tiny 2 bed flat in London, and for the first year of the business worked every hour when my little one slept.

However, the first few years were rough.

I didn’t have a smooth ride into entrepreneurship.

The shift into “being my own boss” was anything but “easy.” That vision of working 4 hours a day – jumping between trendy East London coffee shops, as a new energised ‘mompreneur’ was not my reality.

Every small “win” was marred by an even bigger hit of self-doubt, sunk costs and a shooting pain inside my entrepreneurial gut that taunted me with a crippling sense of “not enoughness’

Long hours spent in front of my computer without the cash flow to justify it.

Painful “heart-to-hearts” with family and friends, desperately trying to convince me that perhaps the ‘9-5’ gig was actually a better option.

And as my business grew, the more hours I worked, the more weekends were spent at training venues, and the more I missed my daughter growing up.

And the reality was I was burning myself out, we were running course internationally, speaking at events, working 1-1 with agencies internationally to build their courses and market them, all whilst convincing myself that what I felt was all part of the ‘entrepreneurial journey’.

I was now working for the most unforgiving, and relentless boss – myself.

The turning point was nearly selling my company.

I was on the edge of quitting...

Weeks after having my second child, I was approached about selling my company…

I just couldn’t work out how to scale, without that needing even more of me.

So I took a final stand.

I decided to give myself a year to restructure my business online.

I had no clue what I was doing…

But then…

I learnt to scale.

I learnt to optimise.

I learnt to launch.

I worked with amazing business and marketing professionals –
and soaked up everything I possibly could.

I knew I wanted to take what I had learnt, that had given me more time and more income, and help entrepreneurs within the childcare sector to grow their businesses and avoid all the mistakes I made, whilst achieving their dreams and goals.

And I knew that the best way to do that was to have the support and guidance from incredible business experts from marketing strategists to mindset coaches, and the community that holds you up during the highs and lows…

Which is how I created the Babyem Business Academy.
